Biography

Assata Jones is an American Indie singer and songwriter whose R&B style has been compared to Erykah Badu, H.E.R. and Solange. Assata opened for numerous headline artists including Jermih, Brandy and Jacob Banks. Jones has also been featured on platforms such as PitchFork, The Source, FakeshoreDrive, Karen Civil, Black Ink Crew Chicago, and more.

Raised on R&B, Soul and Latin Music, Assata Jones was encouraged to pursue music by her family. She started performing at the age of nine in broadway musicals in Chicago. In her
teenage years, Assata moved with her family to Toronto where she attended Rosedale Heights School of The Arts and later moved to New Orleans to attend Dillard University to study music
where Jones began writing original songs and collaborating with other artists and producers.

In early 2018, Assata added the four-track EP Project ‘Summer 17een’ to her discography and
five singles ‘Upside Down’, ‘Potter’s Prayer’, ‘Release’, ‘IDC’ and ‘Don’t Bother’. In 2019, Assata joined the recording artist Solange as a backup dancer for Solange’s world tour, performing at
AfroPunk (Paris & South Africa); Bonnaroo Festival (Nashville, TN); Loveboxx Festival (London); Primavera Sound Festival (Portugal, Spain); Heartland Festival (Denmark); Camp Flog Gnaw (Los Angeles);
Elbphilharmonie (Germany); and the Jimmy Fallon Show (New York). For the year 2020, Assata’s fans eagerly await for the release of her highly anticipated EP Project ‘Summer 19een’.
In the meantime, her fans known as the "SaSaflies" engage with Assata daily on her Instagram.
