Biography

Assata Jones, born and raised in Chicago, Illinois is an American Indie singer and songwriter whose R&B style has been compared to Erykah Badu and Solange. Assata opened for numerous headline artists including Jermih, Brandy and Jacob Banks as well as background dancing for Solange's 2019 European Tour. Jones has also been featured on platforms such as PitchFork, The Source, FakeshoreDrive, Karen Civil, Black Ink Crew Chicago, and more.

Raised on R&B, Soul and Latin Music, Assata Jones was encouraged to pursue music by her elementary choir school conductor. She started performing at the age of nine in broadway musicals in throughout Chicago. In her
teenage years, Assata moved with her family to Toronto where she attended Rosedale Heights School of The Arts and later moved to New Orleans to attend Dillard University to study Music Business
where Jones began writing original songs and collaborating with other artists and producers.

In early 2018, Assata added the four-track EP Project ‘Summer 17een’ to her discography and
three singles ‘Upside Down’, ‘Whatever' and ‘IDC’. In 2019, Assata joined the recording artist Solange as a backup dancer for Solange’s world tour, performing at
AfroPunk (Paris); Bonnaroo Festival (Nashville, TN); Loveboxx Festival (London); Primavera Sound Festival (Portugal, Spain); Heartland Festival (Denmark); Camp Flog Gnaw (Los Angeles);
Elbphilharmonie (Germany); and the Jimmy Fallon Show (New York); Solange Live at The Sydney Opera House (Sydney). Now in 2020, Assata released her highly anticipated album titled, ‘Summer 19een’ October 9, 2020.
She is currently working on her new project with rising producers in Los Angeles and Atlanta. Additionally, Jones engages with her fans via Instagram sharing new music, health and wellness tips for her widely known slogan, "How You Start Your Day is How You Love Your Life."
